First Fair of Culture, Gastronomy and Canary Folklore

The Varadero Square of La Tiñosa will host the first edition of the Fair of Culture, Gastronomy and Folklore this weekend to mark the Day of the Canary Islands.

To celebrate the day of all canaries a comprehensive programme of events has been designed. It starts on Saturday 28th of May at 10 am with a day of hiking around the coastal route from the town of Puerto del Carmen to Puerto Calero. The return trip to El Varadero will be by boat and there will be a contest of homemade desserts and the performance of a ‘parranda’ (local musical group) on the terrace of Fondeadero.

On Sunday 29th of May from 12 pm the first Festival of Folklore The Tiñosa 2016 will be held. It will count with performances of ‘timple’ player Gabriel García and folk groups Gaida, Guágaro and El Pavon until 7.30 p.m. when the known group from Tenerife – the Sabandeños, will offer a free, outdoor concert.

And the festive day on Monday, May the 30th, the Day of the Canary Islands, will begin at 12 noon in the Square of el Varadero with an exhibition of Canarian wrestling. From 1 pm in the area of El Poril there will be different ‘jolateros’ and ‘small boats’ different races and at 2 pm there will be a great popular Asadero of fish, bagels, cheese and wine of the country in collaboration with the Guild of Fishers of La Tiñosa.

Canary Day will conclude with different traditional games in which the younger ones can participate such as sack races, the spoon game or musical chairs amongst others.
