Lanzarote for Wine Lovers

Wine has been produced in the Canary Islands for over 500 years and they are home to some of Europe’s oldest vines.

Lanzarote is fairly new to winemaking compared to the other Canary islands. A series of volcanic eruptions in the 18th century made it hard to grow crops, but the vines thrived.
The Island also escaped the phylloxera plague which destroyed almost all of Europe’s vineyards in the 19th century.

The island has nearly 2000 hectares of landscape producing vines for winemaking. The combination of local grapes, volcanic soil, and high altitudes can make for some very unique, great tasting, fantastic wines

Most of the harvest goes to the production of white wines, ranging from dry to sweet, and sparkling wines. There are also some excellent rosés and reds. The national and international awards they get year after year are the best proof of their great quality.
